Question by proud_mommy: What kind of work from home jobs are there? Working stay at home moms, I could really use your input….?
I’m a stay at home mom and was wondering what kind of jobs i could do and stay home during the day to watch my kids. I know there are those surveys, online stuff, but have been nervous to try them, in case they were scams. If you work from home and do online stuff i’d like to know what online sites are truely legit. Appreciate any helpful advice…

Firstly,

those surveys and much of the online stuff are scams and not worth your time.

there ARE a lot of legitimate working opportunities.

my first suggestion is DONT pay any money for “exclusive” job offers.. as a rule of thumb, if youre asked for money, its a scam.

here ARE some legit websites that can help guide you or give you ideas….

ALL FREE information. Have fun!

    Don’t listen to Bonquisha.

I’ve been looking for the same thing as you for some time now, and I’m sorry to say that there’s no such thing as an easy way to earn money while working at home.

try http://www.pathara.wordpress.com free and legit, no bs

Your not going to find a ‘job’ to work from home. My suggestion to you is to start your own home based business. There are plenty of things you can start up and get involved in. I created a blog on home based business’s on my 360 page. You can go take a look at a couple different ideas for you. If you find something that interests you, then contact the person that posted it. Most home based business’s cost under $ 500 to start. Some cost more, depending on what you want to start. I can’t say which one would be right for you, so go ahead and take a look at them.
    Good luck!

There are a ton of work at home options.

There are jobs that you can do from home, there is telecommuting, and then as was suggested, starting a home based business.

The first and best place to look is at http://www.wahm.com That site has a TON of information on every kind of work at home job you can think of. Browse that site a little, read their forums and you’ll get some good ideas on what is legit, what is a scam, what works and what doesn’t.

Some ideas that come to mind that you can do are: virtual assistant, day care/babysitting, direct sales/home parties, Blogging about a subject you love (take some time to build income, but it is possible).

I’m a single (recently divorced) Stay at Home Mom, and I found my niche in direct sales. I don’t recommend that for everyone, but it works for me. I don’t want a job that I do at home, for a boss; I want my own business where I set my own hours, decide when I want to work, how much money I want to make, etc.

When I was looking for what to do and asking much the same questions you are asking, I went directly to the http://www.wahm.com site. I think you’ll find it very helpful in your search.

    Best wishes!

If you’re looking for a work from home JOB (not a home based business), there are lots of companies who hire for call center type positions. And don’t listen to the nay-sayers who say work from home and telecommuting jobs are all scams or that there aren’t real jobs. There are. You just have to know where to look and how to avoid the scams.

Do NOT pay for a list of jobs or pay to get a job. There are a few of the legitimate companies that, after you have qualified for the job, ask you to pay for a background check if you will be handling sensitive information like credit cards. It’s usually $ 20-$ 30 and from legitimate companies is a legit fee to pay. Other than that, there is no reason or need to pay anything if you just want a job. Some of the call center jobs, you are an independent contractor (IC) and some you are an employee.

If you want to start a home based business, there will be fees involved and business expenses. There are many legit business opportunities out there in direct sales, multi-level and network marketing. There are great companies to work with, but having a business isn’t for everyone.

For info on jobs, you can check out this comparison chart from RatRaceRebellion.com – it shows a huge list of companies, their requirements, pay, where they are etc. http://www.ratracerebellion.com/CS_Comparison.html

Also, check out the telecommuting forums at WAHM.com and WorkPlaceLikeHome.com

I can chime in about the survey portion of your question. I am a stay at home dad and do surveys daily to make some cash. There really are free sites that pay and don’t scam you. However, calling it a “job” would be a major stretch. You generally make between 2 and 10 dollars per survey and the amount of surveys you receive and qualify for can be very unpredictable.

I’ve made a list at my blog of survey sites I’ve had good luck with so far. Stay away from paying for any lists and stick with the free to join sites if you choose to do surveys.

I’m still looking for a “real” stay at home job too. I’ve found http://www.wahm.com to be a good resource for this but I haven’t made the jump to telecommuting yet.

    Good Luck with everything!

Well, I was looking for work from home jobs after losing my job a few years back. I started with paid surveys and joined free survey sites. Guess what? I was horrified to find my email account spammed with thousands of mails daily – and they are not emails asking you to take surveys but emails asking you to buy this and that. It was then that I realised how most free survey sites make money – they sell your personal info to 3rd parties!

I decided then to join a legitimate survey program to have access to a huge list of survey sites. I tried 8 in all – paid surveys etc, survey scout, express paid surveys, survey hawk .. I can’t remember all their names. Only one of them work well for me — Maximum Paid Surveys. You may wish to try it if you are interested.

Inside the program it is 760 legitimate survey and shopping mystery companies that are guaranteed to pay. You need to sign up with as many companies if you want to have more survey opportunities. the surveys just keep flooding into my email account after I joined for a few months and I can now choose the ones with higher payouts and rewards.

Please note that you can’t get rich with paid surveys but you can certainly earn a good secondary source of income. I earned an additional $ 1300 last month working about 2 hours daily filling up survey forms. Not too bad if you ask me!

If you visit the site, make sure you watch the free video on the top left hand corner. The video explains everything you need to know about how to make money with online paid surveys.

An excellent source for finding a legitimate home-based business is to check out Direct Selling Association (DSA) at http://www.dsa.org. DSA is the national trade association of the leading firms that manufacture and distribute goods and services sold directly to consumers.

Have you ever thought of starting your own online travel business. My wife and I started our own online travel business. We’ve looked for years for a home based business and this is the first thing that made sense to us. The best part is that it sells itself. All you have to do is tell people about it. The industry commissions are already built in. You can also learn to save thousands on your taxes and travel wholesale instead of retail. The company that we work through is publicly traded, SEC regulated, has a $ 6,000 guarantee, and even offers health insurance. They even send their top agents on a cruise to the Bahamas. No one else does this. We love this business!

  • Kathy S:

I am a stay at home mom too, which is why I started with The Pampered Chef. The company is with the DSA (direct selling association) and the products sell themselves. The only time you go out is to do the shows…. but it’s my time away from the kids and only for a couple of hours. On average, you can make about $ 100 per show. You do your phone calls, etc. from home while doing laundry and while the kids watch a video for an hour. And you are there when they need you. It’s a wonderful opportunity to earn income while enjoying a flexible schedule. I’d love to tell you more about it, so email me at kaspchef@nycap.rr.com and put Yahoo Pamp Chef in the subject line

Stay away from the Get Paid To sites, such as filling out surveys, completing offers, and reading e-mails. Yes, they may add a little extra cash in your pocket, but you’re spending hours on the computer for MAYBE $ 50 a month. I’m a 21 y/o mother of 2 boys. I do work from home, but i done my research before I began recommended this to anyone. I would hate to know that I was the one scamming, AWLFUL! anyway, if you’re still interested in working from home, you can check it out!!

Hello, first of all I want to tell you I have checked out tons of work at home jobs..going to extremes of looking them up on the Better Business Bureau website..all the ones I have found have a NEGATIVE file..then I came across this work at home job..looked them up and they are satisfactory..they have been in business for 9 yrs now. I took the first step by giving them a chance and it is the best decision I have made for myself..they train, give you everything you need to actually make money and everyone who works for them are extremely helpful. I urge you to look over their site and watch the video that is presented (which tells you what the business is about and how you make a profitable paycheck). If you have any questions or just need more information please feel free to contact me, I dont mind helping at all!!! Just thought Id let you know about this because I have went thru the same thing you are going thru..looking at tons of online jobs to find nothing but a waste of my time. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!!

If you are good at graphics there’s http://www.cafepress.com that’s free…it’s not a huge income bringer but it’s legit and free.

The good news is that there are a lot of things that you can do from home. The first rule in doing so is NEVER pay for employment (or even worse yet – just to submit your application). Number two is if it sounds too good to be true, it is, so move on to something that sounds reasonable.

I am including a link below to the wahm.com. If you take a minute and go through their forums, you may be able to find a work from home idea that suits you. You can also converse on the forums with others who have chosen various work from home professions. Still, be sure to check out any idea thoroughly before doing it.

Personally, I am a Virtual Assistant. I offer administrative support to small businesses and entrepreneurs. To do this, I started my own business. My clients now range all over the US and even parts of Europe.

Starting a business does take a lot of work, but it is also very rewarding. I have even started a blog at http://www.vaconnection.wordpress.com that offers advice, tips and tools for established and aspiring Virtual Assistants alike. If you think you might like to become a VA, you may be able to find some real helpful information there.

Good luck on finding the right opportunity for you and your family. Enjoy the research ahead!
